Weekly vs bi-weekly home cleaning — which works better?
Cost math, household fit, and a direct yearly comparison.
When customers in Helsinki, Espoo, or Vantaa start recurring home cleaning with Prime Cleaning Services, the first real question is: weekly or every other week? The honest answer depends on three factors — the number of people in the home, how much traffic the spaces get, and what kotitalousvähennys returns do for the annual cost. Here’s how to decide.
Yearly cost comparison
Both schedules use the same hourly rate: 32 €/hour + 24 % ALV = 39,68 €/h gross. The difference is visit count × hours per visit.
| Weekly (3 h/visit) | Bi-weekly (3 h/visit) | |
| Visits per year | 52 | 26 |
| Total hours | 156 h | 78 h |
| Gross labour cost (excl. VAT) | 4 992 € | 2 496 € |
| 35 % kotitalousvähennys | 1 747,20 € | 873,60 € |
| Minus 150 € threshold | 1 597,20 € credit | 723,60 € credit |
| Net yearly labour cost | ≈ 3 395 € | ≈ 1 772 € |
Weekly costs roughly double, but that’s because you’re getting twice the service. The kotitalousvähennys annual cap for one person is 1 600 €, so a single-person weekly schedule bumps against the cap. A two-adult household splits and clears well under the cap.
Weekly works well when
- The household has children or pets (especially shedding pets)
- There are frequent visitors — hosting often, short-term rental guests, in-home clients
- Both adults work long hours and time at home is precious
- Allergy sensitivity means dust accumulation matters
- The home is larger (3+ bedrooms) so 3 hours a week just maintains baseline
Bi-weekly works well when
- 1–2 person household, no pets
- Apartment under ~90 m²
- Residents keep the space tidy day-to-day and want professional thorough cleaning twice a month
- Budget-conscious but still want the kotitalousvähennys to work
Monthly is possible too but tends to require longer visits (4–5 h) and typically a deeper scope each time to reset build-up.
A practical tip
Most customers start with bi-weekly, try it for 2–3 months, and then either stay there or step up to weekly if the home feels like it needs more. Stepping up is trivial; stepping down from weekly is awkward because you’ve adjusted to a higher baseline. If you’re uncertain, start bi-weekly and see.
Our service is hourly, so you can also adjust the length of each visit rather than the frequency. A 3-hour weekly can become a 4-hour bi-weekly if what you really want is more time per visit for extra work.

Many customers start with one deep clean to reset the baseline, then shift to weekly or bi-weekly maintenance — the two services combine well on kotitalousvähennys.
